Fishing report 5/3

May 3rd, 2009 by lamar

The cloudy days of the past week, and the rain for that matter, have done little to slow the bite down on Lake Taneycomo. I wondered Sunday morning just what would work in the muddy water from a night of rain. I put on a 1/64th oz Trout Magnet (chertreuse color).. and soon after got my answer.
We’ve been quite successful with the Trout magnets in the last week…. mostly in bubble gum or gold.
Lures working well, again is the Red / Gold Thomas spoon (1/6th oz) and in the Kastmaster   (1/12th). The Kastmaster will get down in faster running water better, and works very well on a snap swivel.
Gulp Yellow and Pink were best in soft plastics. Mike’s Jumbo salmon eggs were still doing great, we’ve got the new colors “Rainbow” and “Cheese”.Drift these off the bottom using 3/16th oz or better.. to get it down.
Night Crawlers, Wax worms and red worms were the most popular in live bait for Trout. Minnows were the best selling live bait, but have had lots of Crappie fishermen stopping in, and they’re enjoying our new supplier.
We will be seeing better weather this week… and with the sun and clouds.. I don’t expect anything to change all that much.
