March Fishing…

March 14th, 2011 by lamar

Well march has started with flurry of fishing. We continue to see a lot of nice fish.. with three over 18#’s in the last four weeks. While that is good, creel size in the last week has seemed to get smaller. We still have folks catching 40-50 on half day trips, but the bigger ones are not consistant. I think sometimes people question their technique, or imagine lots of “reasons” why they didn’t do as good as a previous trip. There’s one thing that’s going to affect the size of the fish you catch.. Missouri Dept. of Conservation. You must remember this is a stocked lake, and our fish come from different sources. For the last of Feb. stocking and most of March the fish will be supplied by Neosho Hatchery. These fish avg about 8″, where the ones we get from Shepard of the Hills Hatchery are usually a 12″ avg. So if you find yourself catching some smaller fish..it’s not necessarily your fishing skills. I’m posting a picture of this nice 24″ Brown Trout caught by Elvin Imgarten..just above the hwy 65 bridges last week. He was surely proud, as he should be.
Bring your lures, along with your powerbaits and worms.. they’re all doing well right now.
Remember to renew your license, and do a spring “Safety” check on your boat, to make sure all required safety equipment is in the boat.
Have a great day on the lake
