Fall is here…

I’ve really enjoyed the last few weeks of fall’s arrival. Fall was always my favorite time of year growing up. Picking up pecans or taking a day trip, stopping on the side of the road to eat some of Mom’s cold fried chicken.. watching folks make syrup…the cotton in the fields. All of these things remind me of Fall. It was just last October that my wife and I purchased Scotty’s. Everyone asks me all the time about my first year here, and I tell them it’s been interesting, and on my worst day I don’t have any regrets.

Thanks for all the friendships I’ve made this year… It’s amazing the diversity of each person that comes in here, but with one common purpose. No matter your walk of life, Trout fishing is enjoyed by every realm of the economic spectrum. We could all say that’s what we enjoy about it, just bring your gear, and it will very seldom disappoint you. Good weather, bad weather, high water, low water…. it doesn’t matter. The MDC makes sure we have plenty of fish for us all to enjoy.

Recently, Burl a friend of mine from Bossier City, brought his family up to enjoy trout fishing for the first time. I always enjoy first timers….. it’s fun to help them.. and see the enjoyment they get out of fishing for Trout here on Lake Taneycomo….. Here’s a pic of Burl and I…. come see us soon.

Lake to be drawn down starting tomorrow…

Empire Electric notified us on Thursday that they will begin drawing the lake down at noon tomorrow, to replace the splashboards on Powersite Dam. Expectations are the repair will take all day on Wednesday and they can begin filling the lake up on Thursday.

It will make fishing “VERY” interesting on Wednesday… it will clear the water up … and we’re looking forward to it. All you fly fishermen… should be great up by the dam.

Fall Is Here…. Let’s go fishing…

Well we’ve had some good fishing the last few weeks. I won’t say it’s all been easy… but it’s always fun.

Heres a fine example caught by Evan of Franklinton, La…. this was a fine rainbow taken drifting a nightcrawler. Bob’s Guide Service does a fantastic job of putting you on the fish.

The next few days the weather is good… wind is strong in the afternoons, so take that into account when making your fishing plans…

Fall Weather is here… leaves about 35%

Starting to see a lot of leaves in the water… color is beginning to look good. Fishing was great over the Columbus Day weekend. Nice Rainbows and starting to get a few browns. I would have to say Nightcrawlers have really picked up in the last few days.

I have picked up a great Thomas Lures. I really like the Thomas Lure family of baits. The number one reason is that THEY ARE MADE IN THE USA. The Quality of the components, and the finish of these baits will ensure a smooth retrieve, with plenty of action. Stop in the shop and have a look when you can.

The Weather is here…wish you were beautiful…

To borrow a line from a good ole Jimmy Buffet song, “The weather is here.. I wish you were beautiful” We are enjoying so much the “Fall” weather. The leaves are showing some change in color… my favorite time of year in the Ozarks.

On top of all that…. THE FISHING IS AWESOME RIGHT NOW. I don’t know if anyone will agree, but I’d have to say it’s the best it’s been in months. We’re back to using jigs and spoons.. and just having a blast catching trout.

Water back to normal…..

Well, about mid afternoon Saturday the Corps of Engineers cut the spillways completely off. We are running now about 6800 CFS, which is the equivelant of 2 generators. That my friends is great “drifting” water.

We’ve seen the fishing picking up since then. Night Crawlers, and Gulp are still the most popular way for most fisherman. I got out with lures and jigs last evening, and caught a few. It sure was a nice night on the lake.

Look at the weather, this week is supposed to be BEAUTIFUL. We don’t have time change again til Nov. 2, so you October folks need to have your plans made… if this weather pattern will hold for a while.. I can’t imagine anything closer to paradise.

Corps of Engineers increasing water flow to 20,000 CFS

We were notified this afternoon, that the Corps of Engineers will be increasing the flow of water through turbine generation and spillway realease to the tune of 20,000 CFS. What this will do is increase the speed of the water mostly, and you will see a slight rise. We are told the water will be decreased again when Table Rock is at 920.

Keep checking in and I’ll update when I know more.

Exciting weekend….We’re glad Ike took a hike when he did !!

Well, what can I say. We had our fair share of rain and wind early Sunday morning as Ike came to see us. About 6″ of rain, and wind gust to about 50, the storm didn’t last long, but the runoff took all day Sunday to leave.

We got cleaned up yesterday, and I will say, all that fished on Monday were treated to not only a beautiful day fishing, but I saw some nice Trout. We had one young man on the fishing dock , first timer, that had a nice looking stringer of Rainbows.

I believe this will be one of our best fishing weeks in a while, with the weather lined up to be great.

Great weather.. great fishing

Well the water has settled down, seems as if all the hooplay over running so much water was a waste of good space on the internet. Currently we’re running the equivelant of 3 generators all day, so the water is great for drifiting and fishing has been pretty good.

I went out for a while yesterday evening and just enjoyed the cool evening and drifting along. I caught some decent fish, no trophies, but did catch my first ever White Bass.

In my opinion the fishing is the most enjoyable for the next 8 weeks. I say that, because as a fisherman, it’s when I enjoy it the most purely for being outdoors in fantastic weather.
