Well Labor Day is upon us, and this traditionally signals the end of “Summer”. I’ve overheard some of my resort and boat friends on the other lake talk about how they are done by that weekend.
I’m so fortunate to have a Trout Dock/ Marina on Lake Taneycomo, so we can fish all year round. It may be the end of the swimming and the skiing, but to a Trout fisherman, give them September/October and they’ll be fine.
We’ve seen some good fish in the last 4 weeks… plenty of activity on all forms of bait and tackle.
Our top 5 are:
1. Night Crawlers
2. Thomas Red/Gold Spoon
3. Olive/Ginger 1/8oz Jig
4. Pink / Yellow Gulp
5 Orange / Yellow Gulp

Make sure you plan to come down, enjoy the cooler days and have a safe day on the lake

I’ll see you on the lake

We always look forward to summer on Lake Taneycomo. The main reason we do is Family Fishing. There is nothing like seeing a kid, catch that first fish, seeing the look on their face, and knowing they will never forget that fish or the experiences of that day. I think too many times we overcomplicate things.

Dad and I in October....

We watch the weather or news too much, we worry more about equipment than the experience, we overplan and overthink when we should remember to look at fishing through the eyes of a child.

My father passed away last week, and I’ve spent lots of time with my brothers/sisters looking at old pictures and remembering old times. Being the last of 5 kids, Dad was done fishing by the time I came along…and we often joked about that. Mom was the person that took me fishing .. nothing fancy just cane poles on the banks of a bayou. She didn’t make it complicated, I’m sure we took nothing but bait and poles.. no sunscreen, no drinks, no ice….probably didn’t even bother with a stringer… and I don’t remember how many we caught..but I’ll never forget the fishing….

Have a great day on the lake….

Orange Gulp paired with Yellow Gulp in the eggs has been the best seller, followed by Pink Gulp paired with White. We had a very good run on Nightcrawlers, and wax worms in the last two weeks as well.

Fishing from the Island to just above Cooper Creek has been good. We continue to do well in the area from 76 Bridge to Roark creek, fishing the Docks, Marinas and trees along the banks. We also had groups that were fishing the Powersite Dam area, and they reported nice stringers of fish.

No matter how you do it, remember when fishing, always be SAFE.

We are enjoying very good fishing right now. I had one group last week that said “best fish we’ve caught in 30 years of coming to Lake Taneycomo” and I agree, the fish are nice and plentiful.

We finally got some slow water..and are enjoying breaking out the Trout Magnets again. If you’ve not fished with these..they are a hoot. Chartruese, Bubblegum, Green/Black have been our best colors. These are 1/64th oz and can be fished under float if desired. I find that fishing in the deeper water, I do better just jig and a split shot..vertically working it from the bottom.

Gold / Red Buoyant spoons .. can’t believe how they’re selling. Olive/Ginger, and Ginger Scotty’s Jigs … we’ve cut back to the 1/16th for now..working well.

Don’t forget to check your safety equipment on your boat Fire Ext, Tossable floatation device, Life Jackets, horn/whistle.. take the time to pull all this stuff out and check it…better safe than sorry.

Have a great day on the lake…

We are enjoying the Spring fishing on Lake Taneycomo. Fishing has been very good from the 65 Bridges down to Bee Creek. Channel drifting with Orange and White or Yellow Gulp, Pink and White Gulp seem to be the favorites in the Powerbait. Lure continue to do well along the shore, or in the Creek mouths. Red/Gold Buoyant Spoons, Black, Olive/Ginger or White in the Scotty’s Jig..by the way… you need to check out our new and improved Jig Buffet. Trout Magnets are doing well in shallow or still water, and I’ll say, if you haven’t tried fishing them..they are a blast, we have added more and more of their products, a great little company out of Searcy Ar…

Come by and check out our selection of Falcon, ABU Garcia equipment, we can also special order most anything you need.

Get to the lake when you can… and be safe.

Well .. fishing continues to be GREAT. We’ve had conditions all over the board the last two weeks, yet fishing continues to be really good. Everyone that walks in the door, wants to know what is working. If you want my honest answer right now, it’s anything that you like to use. Jigs are the best selling lures we have right now. Met with our Jig guy this am..and he can’t believe the volume we’re doing. We stick to 5 different colors, and had a guy in the shop yesterday say “They’ll hit one of them, if not, tie on a different color and they’ll hit it ”

Other lures doing great are the Buoyant spoons. Gold/Red, Copper, and Gold are the three best. Of course the Lil Jake in brass, and the Little Cleo in Gold/Red, Gold/Orange and Silver/Blue do well most any time.

We’re expanding some offerings, we’re excited about the Trout Magnet stick baits that we’ve added. Leland’s Lures out of Searcy makes these, in the 2.5″ and 3.5″ size. 6 different colors, and the best part is, they’re a few bucks cheaper than most. We’re expanding in the Trout SOS line, also made by Leland, and it continues to outsell Berkley in our shop every week. The Trout Magnet jigs and floats and crawfish are great for the still waters and we just added their new Trout Worms too !

We’re now stocking a GREAT selection of ABU Garcia combos, The Stealth and Stamina series. Falcon rods are getting to be our best sellers, with Okuma or Pflueger reels. If we don’t have exactly what you’re looking for, we can have it in less than a week in most cases.

Full Live bait including Crickets, Minnows, Wax Worms, and Red Wigglers. Not all specifically for Trout, but if your fishing in Branson area on Taneycomo, Bull Shoals or Table Rock.. we try to have Live bait for all three.

If you’re looking for boats to rent we got um, our most popular is our Trout Scouter Extreme trout boat…. you’ve got to see it !! Should have a new Lund in the water any day now.. final touches are going on it now.

Have a great day on the lake.. and drop us a line if you need anything…

Lamar
